Abdulbary Yahya

Shaykh Abdulbary Yahya is a respected Islamic scholar, educator, and da'i whose life has been dedicated to the study, teaching, and service of Islam. He is one of AlMaghrib Institute's longest-serving instructors and is known as one of its most laid-back, engaging, and beloved teachers. He is renowned for his unique ability to teach advanced Islamic concepts through relatable stories and personal experiences and is often cited as an example of patience and approachability.

Born in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, Shaykh Abdulbary immigrated to the United States with his family and was raised in Seattle, Washington. After completing his primary and secondary education, he traveled to study in the City of the Prophet ﷺ, al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. In 1998, he graduated with high honors from the Islamic University of Madinah with a degree in Islamic Jurisprudence (Shariah).

Upon graduation, Shaykh Abdulbary returned to Vietnam and Cambodia, where he dedicated himself to humanitarian and da'wah work. He led numerous projects focused on educating underprivileged communities, building schools, digging wells, and supporting other social welfare initiatives.

He is a specialist in Tafsir and Hadith and has taught some of AlMaghrib's most popular courses, including Homecoming: The Madinan Seerah, Echoes of a Cave (Tafsir of Surah al-Kahf), and Chain of Command (Sciences of Hadith). A distinguished speaker with broad international experience, he has delivered lectures and seminars to a wide range of audiences around the world.

Shaykh Abdulbary was blessed to study with some of the most eminent scholars of our time, including Shaykh Umar Fullatah at the Rawdah of the Prophet's Mosque ﷺ, Shaykh Muhammad Atiyyah Salim, Shaykh Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Shinqiti, and Shaykh Abdullah al-Ghunaiman. He was also blessed to spend time studying with Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullah).

Today, Shaykh Abdulbary resides in Seattle with his family, where he serves as the Imam of Masjid As-Salaam at the Islamic Center of Seattle. He is a pillar of the local community and continues to regularly teach, counsel, and serve at Masjid As-Salaam.
